Verses and Prayers

Afterglow

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one,
I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when day is gone.
I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times, and laughing times, and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun,
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

Bridge of Love

There is a bridge of memory.
From earth to heaven above.
It keeps you always near us,
it’s called the bridge of love.
May you always walk in sunshine
and God’s love around you flow,
for happiness you gave us,
no one will ever know.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
but you did not go alone,
for part of us went with you.
The day God called you home.

Do Not Grieve For Me

Don’t grieve for me, for I’m free,
I’m following paths God made for me
I took his hand, I heard him call,
then turned, and bid farewell to all.
I could not stay another day
to laugh, to love, to sing, to play,
tasks left undone must stay that way.
I found my peace...at close of play
and if my parting left a void,
then fill it with remembered joy.
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss
ah yes, these things I too will miss.
Be not burdened...deep with sorrow,
I wish you sunshine of tomorrow.
My life’s been full. I’ve savoured much,
good friends, good times,
a loved one’s touch.
Perhaps my time seemed all too brief.
Don’t lengthen it now with grief
Lift up your heart and share with me,
God wants me now...he set me free.

Miss Me

When I come to the end of the
road and the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room.
Why cry for a soul set free!
Miss me a little, but not too long,
and not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love that we once
shared, miss me but let me go.
For this journey we all must take,
and each must go alone.
It’s all part of the Master plan,
a step on the road to home.
When you are lonely
and sick of heart,
go to the friends we know
and bury your sorrows
in doing good deeds.
Miss me, but let me go.

Ecclestiates III

To every thing there is a season, and
a time to every purpose under the
heaven: A time to be born, and a time
to die; a time to plant, and a time to
pluck up that which is planted; A time
to kill, and a time to heal; a time to
break down, and a time to build up; a
time to weep, and a time to laugh; a
time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time
to gather stones together; a time to
embrace, and a time to refrain from
embracing; A time to get, and a time
to lose; a time to keep, and a time to
cast away; A time to reap, and a time
to sew; a time to keep silence, and a
time to speak; A time to love, and a
time to hate; a time of war, and a time
of peace.

Fill Not Your Hearts

Fill not your hearts with pain and
sorrow, but remember me in every
tomorrow. Remember the joy, the
laughter, the smiles. I’ve only gone
to rest a while. Although my leaving
causes pain and grief, my going has
eased my hurt and given me relief.
So dry your eyes and remember me,
not as I am but as I used to be.
Because, I will remember you all and
look on with a smile. Understand in
your hearts, I’ve only gone to rest
awhile. As long as I have the love
of you, I can live my life in the
hearts of all of you.

Gentle Face

Your gentle face and patient smile with sadness we recall, you had a kindly word for each and died beloved by all. The voice is mute and stilled the heart, that loved us well and true. Ah, bitter was the trial to part from one so good as you. You are not forgotten loved one nor will you ever be.
As long as life and memory last we will remember thee. We miss you now, our hearts are sore, as time goes by we miss you more. Your loving smile, your gentle face no one can fill your vacant place.

God Saw You Getting Tired

God saw you getting tired
and a cure was not to be,
so He put his arms around you,
and whispered, "Come to Me".
With tearful eyes we watched you,
and saw you pass away.
Although we loved you dearly,
we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes the best.

Heartstrings

When those we love go away, they never really leave us;
they are with us now, wherever we are.
Those whom we have cherished, live on forever,
for love wraps itself around the heart.
Although it’s difficult now, someday beyond our tears
and all the world’s wrongs; beyond the clouds
and all that we can see and touch, we shall all understand.

Indian Prayer

Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glint on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you wake in morning hush, I am the swift uplifting rush of quiet birds in circling flight. I am the soft starlight at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry, I am not there. I did not die.

Irish Blessings

May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again,
may God hold you in the
hollow of His hand.

John 8:12

Jesus said:
“I am the light of the world. He that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”

Matthew 11:28

Come to me,
all of you
who are tired
from carrying
your heavy loads,
and I will
give you rest.

Mother Dear

Beautiful things in this life are manifold tis true, we count the stars by thousands, the birds and flowers, too;The sunsets and dawnings, rare beauties far and near, but all the wide world over, there’s just one “Mother Dear.”

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me: Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil: my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

I’m Free

Don’t grieve for me, for now I’m free; I took His hand when I heard Him call; I turned my back and left it all. If my parting has left a void; then fill it with remembered joy. My life’s been full, I savored much; good friends, good times, a loved one’s touch. A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss; ah yes, these things, I too, will miss. Perhaps my time seemed all too brief; don’t lengthen it now with undue grief. Lift up your hearts and share with me; God wanted me now, He set me free.

God Looked Around His Garden

God looked around His garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you And lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful He always takes the best. He saw the road was getting rough And the hills were hard to climb, So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered "Peace be thine." It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn't go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home.

Precious Gift

One gift, above all others God gives to us to treasure one that knows no time, no place and one gold cannot measure. The precious, poignant, tender gift of Memory ~ that will keep our dear ones ever in our hearts although God gives them sleep. It brings back long remembered things a song, a word, a smile and our world’s a better place~~~~because we had them for awhile!

Life is but a stopping place

Life is but a stopping place, a pause in what’s to be, a resting place along the road to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, different paths along the way, we all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay. Our destination is a place far greater than we know, for some, the journey’s quicker, for some the journey’s slow. And when the journey finally ends, we’ll claim a great reward, and find an everlasting peace, together with the Lord.

Remember Me

Remember me whenever you see a sunrise. Remember me whenever you see a star. Remember me whenever you see a rainbow, or woods in Autumn colors from afar. Remember me whenever you see roses, or seagulls sailing high in a sky of blue. Remember me whenever you see waves shining in the sun. Remember me and I’ll be remembering you! Remember me whenever you see a teardrop or meadows still wet with morning dew. Remember me when you feel love growing in your heart and remember I’ll be remembering you!

Safely Home

I am home in heaven, dear ones. Oh, so happy and so bright! There is a perfect joy and beauty in the everlasting light. All the pain and grief is over, every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever, safely home in heaven at last. There is work still waiting for you, so you must not idly stand, do it now, while life remaineth, you shall rest in God’s own land. When that work is all completed, oh, the rapture of that meeting; oh, the joy to see you come!

Broken Chain

We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone; for part of us went with you the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide, and though we cannot see you, you are always by our side. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again. Ron Tranmer

Serenity

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Some People

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. But there are those that move our souls to dance. They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom. Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts and we are never, ever the same.

Timothy

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness.

2 Timothy 4:7-8

To Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, just release me, let me go – so I can move into my afterglow. You mustn’t tie me down with your tears; let’s be happy that we had so many years. I gave you my love, you can only guess how much you gave me in happiness. I thank you for the love you each have shown but now it’s time I traveled alone. So grieve for me a while, if grieve you must, then let your grief be comforted with trust. It’s only for a while that we must part, so bless the memories within your heart. And then, when you must come this way alone, I’ll greet you with a smile and a

“WELCOME HOME.”

If Tears Could Build A Stairwell

If tears could build a stairwell and memories were a lane, I would walk right up to Heaven and bring you home again. No farewell words were spoken, no time to say good-bye... You were gone before I knew it, and only God knows why. My heart still aches in sadness and secret tears still flow, What it means to lose you no one will ever know.

We Sat Beside Your Bedside

We sat beside your bedside, our hearts were crushed and sore; we did our duty to the end, ’til we could do no more. In tears we watched you sinking, we watched you fade away; and though our hearts were breaking we knew you could not stay. You left behind some aching hearts, that loved you most sincere; we never shall and never will forget you, Mother Dear.

When I Must Leave You

When I must leave you for a little while, please do not grieve and shed wild tears and hug your sorrow to you through the years. But start out bravely with a gallant smile; and foor my sake and in my name live on and do all things the same. Feed not your loneliness on empty days, but fill each waking hour in useful ways. Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer, and I in turn will comfort you and hold you near; and never, never be afraid to die, for I am waiting for you in the sky!

May You Always Walk In Sunshine

May you always walk in sunshine and God’s around you flow, for the happiness you gave us, no one will ever know. It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone, a part of us went with you, the day God called you home. A million times we needed you, a million times we’ve cried. If love could only have saved you, you never would have died. The Lord be with you and may you rest in peace.
